About this experience
This walking tour in Paris focuses on the history of the French Revolution, covering events from 1789 to modern times. Over two hours, a local guide will take you through key locations where significant events unfolded, including the square where Louis XVI was executed and a bridge built from the Bastille's stones. You will explore the revolution's timeline, including the fall of the monarchy, the royal family's escape attempt, and the Reign of Terror. The tour is suitable for those interested in history and the social context of modern France, accommodating a maximum of 8 participants. It is not recommended for those seeking a traditional sightseeing experience, as the emphasis is on storytelling rather than monument visiting. Participants should be prepared for an engaging narrative that intertwines notable landmarks with historical insights.
Itinerary
1
Assemblee Nationale
Where French democracy sits today — and where the ideas of liberté, égalité, fraternité were born, ideas that would go on to inspire revolutions worldwide.
2
Pont de la Concorde
Cross a bridge deliberately constructed from the stones of the demolished Bastille fortress. Learn what really happened on July 14, 1789 — and why it wasn't about freeing prisoners.
3
Place de la Concorde
Stand on the square where Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette were executed, along with over 1,000 others during the Terror — including Robespierre himself, devoured by the revolution he built.
4
Jardin des Tuileries
Where the converted horse stable was standing, where the First Republic was proclaimed, the king was condemned, and the political vocabulary the entire world still uses today was invented.
