About this experience

This tour takes you to the Northern Rhone Valley, known for its Syrah and Viognier grapes. The experience lasts from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm and involves a small group visiting two family wineries. You will explore one of the oldest and steepest vineyards in France, featuring terrace walls built during Roman times. Wine tastings will include Cote Rotie, Condrieu, and St Joseph appellations, which are regarded as some of the finest Cotes du Rhone wines. The tour is suitable for wine enthusiasts but may not appeal to those uninterested in wine tasting.

Office of Tourism and Congress of Metropolis of Lyon

At 1:50 pm, our guide English Speaking guide will meet you in front of Lyon Office de Tourisme building main entrance door located on Bellecour Square (50 m opposite Le Royal Hotel). After a short walk, participants will get on the 8 seaters minivan to begin the Cotes du Rhone wine tour.

Theatre de Vienne

En route to the Rhone Valley, stop in Vienne to enjoy a spectacular view on the 2000 year’s old roman theatre and the stunning panorama on the Rhone Valley. With your guide, learn about the "terroir" & the different grapes characteristics of the Northern Cotes du Rhone region.

Ampuis

cross Ampuis town, the world capital of Syrah and visit "Cote Rotie" vineyards literally "roasted hillside". Drive on the precipitous vertigo inducing terraced slopes of "Cote Brune" and "Cote Blonde" and appreciate the 30 to 60 degree angles hills bathed in sun facing the beautiful Rhône River.

Condrieu

Cross Condrieu town and learn about the Viognier grape varietal and how it almost disappeard in the 1960's.

Chavanay

Push the door of a first family winery and after a short visit, wine-taste 6 different Cotes du Rhone wines among them, some Condrieu, St Joseph or/and Cote Rotie appellations.

Malleval

After a short drive, discover a second family winery. With your guide, enjoy a private tour of the facilities and learn some secrets about the unique Rhone wine-making savoir-faire and the art of barrel aging. Then, taste 5 different Cotes du Rhone wines, 3 reds and 3 whites including Condrieu, St Joseph and Cote Rotie famous appellations.

At 6:30 pm, our guid will drop you off in Lyon Bellecour Square in front of the Office de Tourism building. End of a very nice tour for wine lovers!
